Spectral Behavior of Combustion Fronts with High Exothermicity

چکیده
We study fronts in a reaction-diffusion model for high Lewis number combustion processes with the reaction rate in the form of an Arrhenius law. By a combination of spectral energy estimates and Evans function computation, we study the unstable spectrum of a class of combustion fronts with high exothermicity, where the previously known results do not apply and interesting spectral behavior is observed.

Gasless Combustion Fronts with Heat Loss
For a model of gasless combustion with heat loss, we use geometric singular perturbation theory to show existence of traveling combustion fronts. We show that the fronts are nonlinearly stable in an appropriate sense if an Evans function criterion, which can be verified numerically, is satisfied. For a solid reactant and exothermicity parameter that is not too large, we verify numerically that ...
متن کاملEffect of Combustion on Near-Critical Swirling Flow
This paper examines the manner in which heat release resulting from premixed combustion alters the nature of near-critical, axisymmetric, swirling flow in a straight circular pipe. Attention is confined to dilute premixtures so that exothermicity is weak and a small-disturbance approach applicable. The weak exothermicity is found to have a considerably larger effect on the flow. In the absence ...
متن کاملScaling and noise in slow combustion of paper
We present results of high resolution experiments on kinetic roughening of slow combustion fronts in paper, focusing on short length and time scales. Using three different grades of paper, we find that the combustion fronts show apparent spatial and temporal multiscaling at short scales. The scaling exponents decrease as a function of the order of the corresponding correlation functions. The no...

We prove the existence and give the asymptotic behavior of non local fronts in homogeneous media.
متن کاملStability Analysis for Combustion Fronts Traveling in Hydraulically Resistant Porous Media
We study front solutions of a system that models combustion in highly hydraulically resistant porous media. The spectral stability of the fronts is tackled by a combination of energy estimates and numerical Evans function computations. Our results suggest that there is a parameter regime for which there are no unstable eigenvalues. We use recent works about partially parabolic systems to prove ...
